Lake Lukna is one of the biggest lakes in the Višķi parish that is situated approximately 30 kilometres to the North-east from the city Daugavpils. There are several more lakes in the Višķi parish. Together they make the beautiful scenery of this area. There are four medium size villages in the parish with population 220 up to 600 residents. They are placed nearby, that makes your travelling easier and more interesting , as you can see more objects without cycling much!
Špoģi secondary school. The school was founded in 1904. Today it’s situated in a new building, built in 1990. Špoģi music and arts school,
The place of honour has been erected for the warriors killed in the World War II, also placed in this village.
In Špoģi You can use such services as postal services, medical care, have a coffee break in any of the coffee-houses or simply enjoy a walk by the river of Dubna.
Driving further for approximately 2 kilometres you’ll find next village - Višķi and while cycling there, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake Lukna.
Park of the count Moļs. More than 100 species of rare trees have been planted in the 28 ha big park after count’s journeys (in the time period of count’s governance).
Count Moļs’ manor house is an interesting historic building with more objects in neighbourhood (such as mere with little islet, fountain, stable etc.).
It’ s worth to see as well the small size museum devoted to Višķi history, the stadium, the open- air stage and the beach.
Višķi Roman Catholic Church of Jānis Kristītājs is one of the most beautiful architectural buildings in the area – the stone-carved in the beginning of the 20th century. You’ll enjoy a beautiful view of the nearest neighbourhood, including Lake Lukna which you can see from this place.
Next village to visit is the Old Višķi approximately 4 kilometers from the starting point. It’s an interesting village with the dwellings of ancient times. In architecture one-storied houses predominate. Many Jews have lived here before the World War II when the village was preparing to get a small town’s status.
The next place to stop is situated in the inward curve of the Lake Lukna – it’s a view tower where you can have a rest enjoying nature. You will see up to 5 lakes from this tower if the weather is fine.
The old Podgurjes mill is the next place to stop. Situated on the beach of the river Tartaka, the mills are very interesting historical object. Unfortunately the time and the weather have corroded it.
Danisevka sightseeing point. You can see the village of Višķi from the other side of the lake Lukna, as well as two churches - Old-believers’ and Orthodox believer churches.
At the end of the route you can have a closer look to the Višķi railroad station that is one of the first railroad lines in the Latvia (Warsaw- St. Petersburg).
