Description

The route is created for auto tourists, who like to drive their cars.  Traveling by car is understood as the essential part of this route and the car is not treated as a means of transport for getting from one point of interest to another.   Usually, when traveling by car, we choose the biggest, straightest and best quality roads.  As a consequence – we travel by the same main road and do not notice all nice places just few kilometers from the mail roads. This route directs to minor roads that lead through the picturesque places and provide pleasure in driving. Route length: 300 km. Driving time (stops not included) – 3 val. 30 min.

 Route: Švenčionys – Labanoras – Dusetos – Zarasai – Ignalina – Švenčionys.

Description and pictures

1 day

Švenčionys – Labanoras. The route starts in Švenčionys.  Sightseeing in the center, visit to tourist information center, or visiting some cultural heritage objects (total of 11).  Visit to museum (Nalšios muziejus, Laisvės al. 1, LT-18111 Švenčionys). From Švenčionys to Pabrade by road No. 102. In Pabradė turn to road No. 173.  This road leads through nice landscapes and villages, lakes. Next to the lake Arinas the road No. 173 takes left and the route leads right to the gravel road (good quality). This road leads through the middle of Labanoras forest – very impressive sights.  Stop in Labanoras forest near the lake Juodieji Lakajai, where Lakaja river streams out from this lake. Arrival at Labanoras village. Place of interest – wooden Labanoras church. Lodging at Labanoras hotel.

2 day

The route continues on the same gravel road to the north, near the Aisetas lake, to Tauragnai (nice village among the lakes)

From Tauragnai to Daugailiai (gravel road, beautiful landscapes, villages, large height differences). From Daugiailiai to Degučiai take A6 road, and then turn to Dusetos, road No. 179. Though Dusetos can be reached directly from Daugailiai, the road No. 179 is really special – landscapes, narrow, winding, paved road.

In Dusetos visit Dusetos art gallery. (address K. Būgos 31a, Dusetos LT-32304, Zarasai district.).

Lodging at Ievos and Jurgio Lapėnų farmstead in Zarasai district, Didžiadvario village, near Dusetos. Contemporary farmstead is in the peninsula of the Sartai lake, near Sartai hippodrome. 

3 day

From Dusetos continue north by the Sartai lake. Then take road No. 117 to Zarasai.  Before Zarasai turn left to Stelmužė to see Stelmužė oak tree and church – museum.  Next stop – Zarasai. Then to Dūkštas and Ignalina. Visit Palūšė or Ginučiai.  From Ignalina -  back to Švenčionys
